Rewind Trauma Therapy – Rapid Relief from PTSD Symptoms
Rewind Therapy is an effective treatment to significantly reduce, or even remove, symptoms related to trauma. The process works through guided imagery and is fast and effective. You are not required to talk about the details of the traumatic event/s, enabling you to get closure without disclosure, which reduces the opportunity for re-traumatisation.
Rewind is effective for
- A single traumatic event
- Multiple traumatic events
- Feeling overwhelmed by trauma
- Recent or historic trauma/s
NB You do not need a diagnosis of PTSD for treatment.
Rewind is effective for significantly reducing or removing
- Flashbacks
- Intrusive thoughts or images
- Nightmares
- Intense distress at real or symbolic reminders of the trauma
- Physical symptoms including pain, sweating, nausea, trembling and any other physical sensation
How it works
During our ‘normal’ day-to-day lives, our brain processes information from short-term memory into long-term memory; this is the job of a part of our brain called the Hippocampus. The Hippocampus acts like a filing system, organising and storing information and saving it in our long-term memory. We can then access this information when we choose instead of it involuntarily popping up.
In the case of a traumatic event, Cortisol, the stress hormone, runs through our body and brain, putting us in a state of fight, flight or freeze. These states prevent the Hippocampus from processing the information, and it becomes stuck in our short-term memory, which can cause symptoms such as images, nightmares, flashbacks and physical sensations.
Rewind therapy takes place while you are in a state of relaxation, ensuring you are not in fight, flight, or freeze. This enables your brain to properly process the information and convert it into long-term memory.
What to expect through the process
I will guide you into a state of relaxation through breathwork and grounding.
You will then be taken through a visualisation, which allows you to view yourself as a third party going through the event. This creates a level of separation to reduce the recurrence of re-traumatisation. Finally, I will guide you through a process where you rewind the event in a very specific way. This is when the integration of the memory takes place.
You will start and end the Rewind process in a place that feels safe for you.
The cycle is repeated as many times as needed with each traumatic memory.
How effective is the rewind technique?
Extremely effective, with trials having over 90% of participants having a significant reduction in symptoms.
All my clients who I have guided through this process, have had a significant reduction in symptoms. Some have completely eliminated symptoms.
Working with me
Rewind can be used as a stand-alone treatment, or it can be integrated into a longer-term therapeutic relationship together. This can be dependent on the type and number of traumatic events. Also, you may already have an established relationship with a therapist, and just wish to access Rewind and return back to your therapist thereafter.
Whilst you are undertaking Rewind, you are unable to see another therapist as this can create confusion in the process.
A minimum of two sessions, two weeks apart, is required. This allows for treatment and review. If further sessions are required, they can be identified at that point.
